The Icicle Works | INFORMATION A bumper, expanded and remastered edition of this forgotten 80s slice of new wave, ‘The Small Price of a Bicycle’ was the sophomore effort of Ian Mcnabb’s The Icicle Works. It may not have helped that they were from Liverpool, but the country was not sure what to make of The Icicle Works at the time of the release. Odd tracks had varying levels of success, but ‘The Small Price Of A Bicycle’ has serious cult appeal, appearing on plenty of ‘best of the 80s’ lists by those really in the know. Just listen to album opener ‘Hollow Horse’ and I challenge you not to fall in love with the band, there are echoes of The Smiths, The Stone Roses and The Talking Heads in there, and across the thirty-four tracks on this huge collection there should be enough material for you to become an expert in their output practically overnight. Good stuff. |
